j is for JAMAICA

When it came to cruise ports, I’d heard so much about the drug activity and unsafeness that was Jamaica I really wasn’t that excited to go. However, our ship stopped in Ocho Rios, and we decided to do a shore excursion to Mystic Mountain. We ended up really enjoying our day.

To begin, the Jamaican people were wonderful. Everyone we met had a smile and a greeting for us. They answered any questions we might have, and they made sure that we felt safe and welcomed the entire time we were there. Did they enjoy the ganja, why yes they did… maybe that’s why they were so happy.

This excursion allowed us to spend time in the jungle and take a ski lift chair aka “cable car” up to the top of the mountain to enjoy the views… and the birds… and the flowers… I have a thing for orchids and they had so many varieties hanging in baskets all around the buildings and walkways. We learned a little about the history of Jamaica as we walked around the different pathways. We rode a swinging rollercoaster that was so much fun. But even just taking the ski lift chair both ways and enjoying the peace and solitude of the jungle was worth the trip.

It is at its core a beautiful island, and I’m glad I got to enjoy a part of it.
